What's the longest way to Ithaca?

What's the longest way to Ithaca? And what is Ithaca? Is it just an island of Greece or it can be any destination in our lives just as Kavafis intended?

When I think of Ithaca my mind rarely goes to the island. I admit I am influenced by the Greek poet. When I think of Ithaca I recall the image of a house ready to collapse in my village in Arta (Greece). This seems to be my destination. However I won't write more about itas the destination itself is not that important, it's the journey that counts. So let's write about a journey!

I am lucky enough to have few friends in America: Oswaldo in Mexico, Marlon in Costa rica and Irupe in Uruguay. It is my dream to visit at least Oswaldo and Marlon and if I am brave enough even Irupe on roadtrip. Of course this may happen only after my graduation from the University of Uppsala in 1 1/2 years... And perhaps this journey will allow me to recognize the place to settle down.

Will this dream come true or will it be gone with wind? Who knows? Not me for sure! However the struggle on the way to this adventure will give me valuable experience or this is my feeling!
